About Me!

Urfi is a Kashmir based Journalist, specializing in Photography, Videography. Documentaries, Reports, etc. He is certified in B&W Photography as well. He is well trained by International Media Consultants (USA) in Report Writing as well as Television Production/News Gathering. Further to this he has professional fellowship with Association of Common Wealth Universities UK.

 

Urfi also produced a Cross LoC Documentary which was the dream that he has performed as a Co-Director along with his partner from Indian side of Jammu Kashmir Pawan Bali   “A Journey through River Vitasta”

As a film Producer Urfi has produced many short Documentaries for different National and International Organizations such as  World Bank Assisted Project NRMP,  ICIMOD. (International Center for Integrated Mountain Development.) Nepal.   WFP (United Nation Agency for food.)  UNDP. (United Nation Development Program.) Save the Children UK, Mercy Corp, International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) as volunteer during Kashmir Earth quake 2005.  and produced short documentaries public awareness  messages and photo presentations.

 

Urfi has worked with the National Television Channel in Pakistan as a News Reporter and Cameraman; covered “War” India, Pakistan escalation on Line of Control (LOC) in Jammu Kashmir.  Moreover, he has also worked with TNN (Television News Network) and Reuters  as Reporter. Cameraman.

– Commonwealth Professional Fellowship, 2014 in Conflict Transformation, and Peace building in the region. (with Association of Commonwealth Universities, UK )

Media Experience​

– News Reporter & Cameraman, Pakistan Television (PTV): Reported on the India-Pakistan escalation along the Line of Control (LOC) in Jammu and Kashmir.
– Reporter/Cameraman, Television News Network (TNN) and Reuters, 1994-2002

Documentary Credits​

Produced a series of four joint Cross-LOC documentaries in collaboration with a journalist from the Indian side of Jammu and Kashmir. One of these documentaries, titled “Trading for Peace,” won the Bonds International Development Award in the UK.

Environmental Activism​

– Trained as an environmental Judge focusing on Climate Change and Gender as part of the Green Journalism movement.
– Actively engaged in Cross-LOC peace process initiatives. As a Kashmiri journalist, I have had opportunities to interact with journalists across the Line of Control and facilitate people-to-people contact through track two diplomacy.
